Study Four: Steps

In Study Three, you learned that:

  • We can know the way of eternal salvation.
  • Eternal life is received by exercising personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • Faith in Christ means to believe on Him and receive Him as Lord and Saviour.
  • Only the Lord Jesus Christ can satisfy the human heart.
  • Although the whole Bible is the Word of God, the Gospel according to John and the Epistle to the Romans were given specifically to show how you might receive eternal life. For your convenience the e-Life studies refer only to these two Books. Any reference to other parts of the Bible will be written out for you.

    — STUDY FOUR —

Look up and read the scripture passages referenced, and answer the questions in your own words.

I John 5:11-13 — “And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life …”

II Corinthians 5:17— “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a NEW creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become NEW.”

Acts 2:41 — “Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.”

Acts 8:12 — “But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.”

Acts 18:8 — “And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized.”

The first act of obedience for every believer is to declare his faith in Jesus Christ by being baptized. Baptism does not save or help save anyone. It is the means by which we publicly identify with Christ. The consistent teaching of the Word of God is that baptism follows salvation.

The word “baptize” means to “immerse.” Baptism is the immersion of a believer in water. Sprinkling or pouring is not immersing, and therefore not scriptural baptism.

The New Testament teaches that baptism is the immersion of a believer in water, publicly implemented by a Bible-believing New Testament (Baptist) church. Baptism adds the believer to the church, which is the Lord’s appointed society to preach His Gospel throughout the world.

Thank you for completing this series of studies. We hope you learned a lot from God’s Word — but more importantly that you personally placed your faith in Jesus Christ as your Saviour and Lord and now have a Bible-based assurance that you have eternal life.
